When you ask musicians how they came to choose their musical instrument as a child, the answers vary from 'it fell out of a cupboard at school' to 'I always wanted to play the (insert here)' with many strange and wonderful variations in between.
What is for sure is that if a child chooses an instrument themselves (as against it being foisted upon them), then the chances of them persevering through the hard bit at the beginning are much greater.
