Welcome to the SaMM Parent Forum

This is a space for SaMM families to chat, ask questions, and support each other.

Tutors check in regularly to answer questions about lessons, instruments, and anything music-related — and parents are welcome to use it for general chat too, like coordinating lifts, swapping tips, or just getting to know each other.

If your question is urgent or personal (about a specific child's progress, for example), please still email or speak to your tutor directly — the forum is for things the whole SaMM community might find useful.

Getting started

  • To ask a question or start a conversation, click "Add new Forum topic" at the top of the forum you want to post in.
  • Give your topic a short, clear title — it helps others find it later and helps a tutor spot questions quickly.
  • To reply to someone, scroll to the bottom of their topic and use the reply box.
  • You'll get more forums appearing here over time as we set up specific topics (e.g. one for general chat, one for tutor Q&A) — for now everything sits under General Discussion.

A few house rules

  • Be kind — this is a family community, and everyone's welcome.
  • Keep it on-topic: music, lessons, SaMM events, and related chat.
  • No sharing of other families' contact details or photos of children without their parent's permission.
  • If you spot something that doesn't belong here, or a post that concerns you, please let us know rather than replying publicly.
  • Tutors will do their best to answer questions promptly, but for anything urgent, contact them directly.

SaMMbassadors

I am delighted and honoured to be an Ambassador for SaMM, which does such excellent work supporting music-making in Devon.

Having witnessed first-had the expertise, energy and enthusiasm of the highly skilled staff, as well as the wide-eyed wonder and enjoyment of the young participants, I know that this is hugely worthwhile enterprise.

The students at SaMM are surrounded by a rich and positive musical environment in which they obviously thrive. Every time I have worked with the students there, taking various workshops for all levels and ages, I have been struck by the engagement of each and every student, their passion and creativity coupled with a with willingness to learn and participate, as well as the inclusive atmosphere. I always look forward to these exciting mornings full of musical discovery.
