Clare Devenport

I started my musical life learning the recorder at primary school. I transferred to the flute and met Gareth Morris on a chamber music course in 1978.  I studied with him before getting a place at Birmingham school of music. During my final year having been inspired by masterclasses in Nice with Alain Marion, I started a period of study with Eddie Beckett. I graduated from BSM having won the BMI woodwind prize with diplomas in teaching and performing in July 1985. Whilst teaching for ILEA I became interested in improvisation whilst studying with Wissam Boustany. My interest in psychology prompted me to train first as a music therapist then as a child psychotherapist graduating in 2000 and working in the NHS. My playing experience has been varied, performing with classical ensembles, being part of an improvisatory group creating a soundtrack to the Tempest and various folk groups and ceilidh bands. I moved to Devon in 2003 and resumed working as a music teacher. I teach flute and recorder privately, at South Brent Primary school and at Samms. I am passionate about helping children to discover music and develop their skills and passion for it which could be with them for life!
